Equipment compatibility

Camera robot payload and equipment compatibility

Understand how cameras, lenses, focus motors, mounts and cables contribute to robot payload, and how to check mounting, software, control and power compatibility.

Content updated

Start with the complete camera rig

Evaluate payload using the actual camera assembly mounted on and moving with the robot, rather than the camera body alone.

  • Camera body, lens and the battery or power accessories used during the shot.
  • Focus motors, lens supports, matte box, filters and other shooting accessories.
  • Camera plates, adapters and mounting brackets.
  • Cables moving with the arm and any additional mounted equipment.

Check balance and movement as well as weight

A total weight below a specification does not establish that every shot can be performed. Centre of gravity, lens length, mounting orientation and the planned path affect the working conditions.

Share a mounting diagram, accessory positions and the planned move with the support team to confirm the configuration and mounting method.

Check mounting, control and power separately

Compatibility has several parts: securely mounting the camera, driving lens focus, controlling equipment through software, and supplying power and signals. Supporting a camera brand mechanically does not establish support for every model or control function.

  • Mounting: interface, brackets, clearances and complete payload.
  • Control: camera model, lens model, focus equipment and required protocol.
  • Software: robot model, software version and feature release status.
  • Power and signals: connections, cable length and routing during movement.

Turn an equipment list into a confirmed setup

Provide exact camera and lens models, all accessories, mounting photos or a diagram, the planned shot, available space and country of use. List alternative lens and accessory combinations separately.

After confirming the configuration, complete setup checks under the actual mounting and shooting conditions. Recheck affected compatibility items when equipment, accessories or software versions change.

Selection questions

How should cameras and accessories be counted against rated payload?

Include the camera, lens, plates, focus motors, adapters and cables moving with the arm. Assess the complete mounted weight, centre of gravity, mounting orientation and planned movement when checking the configuration.

Does support for a camera brand mean my camera can be controlled?

Confirm the exact model, lens, control protocol, connection and software version. Mechanical mounting compatibility and camera control compatibility are separate checks.
